Quantitative analysis of short-radius artificial gravity parameters to mitigate spaceflight-relevant physiological deconditioning

چکیده
Using artificial gravity (AG) as a physiological countermeasure for astronauts during spaceflight has been discussed and researched decades; however, today there still exists lack of optimized AG design. The enclosed work critically analyzes the existing literature bedrest studies (a ground-based analog microgravity) to provide insight into benefit using counteract deconditioning.

Artificial gravity as a countermeasure for mitigating physiological deconditioning during long-duration space missions
In spite of the experience gained in human space flight since Yuri Gagarin's historical flight in 1961, there has yet to be identified a completely effective countermeasure for mitigating the effects of weightlessness on humans. Were astronauts to embark upon a journey to Mars today, the 6-month exposure to weightlessness en route would leave them considerably debilitated, even with the impleme...
متن کامل5th Conference of the European Study Group on Cardiovascular Oscillations
The European Space Agency (ESA) Short-Arm Centrifuge (SAHC) was used to generate 0.7, 1, and 1.2 Gz of artificial gravity at the level of the heart in 6 healthy male subjects. We investigated the hypothesis that the effects of hyper-gravity on Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia (RSA) can mimic the effects observed after spaceflight cardiovascular deconditioning. Artificial gravity along the head-to-f...
متن کاملEffect of radius versus rotation speed in artificial gravity.
Artificial gravity by centrifugation can lead to perceptual disturbances in the form of motion sickness and/or misperception of motion during head movements, but the degree of perceptual disturbance during centrifugation in 0-g has not been thoroughly investigated. It is known that during whole-body on-axis yaw rotation in 0-g, head movements in pitch and roll cause very little disturbance, des...
متن کاملIdentifying Relevant Parameters to Improve WCET Analysis
Highly-configurable systems usually depend on a large number of parameters imposed by both hardware and software configuration. Due to the pessimistic assumptions of WCET analysis, if left unspecified, they deteriorate the quality of WCET analysis. In such a case, supplying the WCET analyzer with additional information about parameters (a scenario), e.g. possible variable ranges or values, allo...
متن کاملCombining ergometer exercise and artificial gravity in a compact-radius centrifuge
Humans experience physiological deconditioning during space missions, primarily attributable to weightlessness. Some of these adverse consequences include bone loss, muscle atrophy, sensory-motor deconditioning, and cardiovascular alteration, which may lead to orthostatic intolerance when astronauts return to Earth. Artificial gravity could provide a comprehensive countermeasure capable of chal...
